THATCHER — The wife of a teacher, Keyhole Properties owner Kym Gifford saw how much money public school teachers spend out of their own pockets just to have essentials in the classroom.

“Teachers don’t get to write that off, they don’t get reimbursed, they just do it because they need it. There’s not enough money in the school budget to go around, so it just happens. Every school teacher does it,” Gifford said.

So she decided to do something about it. She spoke with the small business owners Key Hole Properties works with, and last year they raised a few thousand dollars that they turned into gift cards distributed to all the Gila Valley elementary schools.

This year, Gifford is asking the public to help as well. The link to the donation page can be found on Keyhole Properties Facebook and Keyhole Properties Instagram pages.

“All the money that we raise and that we earn, Keyhole Properties is going to match dollar-for-dollar, Gifford said.

The donations will again be turned into gift cards to allow each teach to purchase what they need in their individual classrooms.

The deadline to donate is July 25.
