Juvenile referred to probation after making threats on Snapchat

A Safford juvenile was referred to juvenile probation after posting a gun on social media and threatening to shoot another boy. The victim’s parents called police after their son received a threatening message on Snapchat in which the boy who initiated the contact posted a picture of a gun and told their son to go to Firth Park where he would shoot him.

Police asked the victim if he had contact with the boy who threatened him outside of Snapchat. The boy said he had not seen or talked with the other boy for a long time. He said he did not know why the boy contacted him. The victim showed the officer screenshots of the dialog between him and the other boy.

A Safford officer contacted the boy who made the threat. The boy initially denied making the threat, but eventually admitted to posting the picture and threatening to shoot the other boy. When asked why he suddenly reached out to a boy he hadn’t had contact with for a long time, the boy said he didn’t know. The boy said he found the gun on the top of the refrigerator about a month ago and took a picture of it. The boy’s mother was contacted by phone. She said the gun belonged to her ex-boyfriend and was no longer in the house.

The boy was referred to juvenile probation for Threatening or Intimidating and Use of Electronic Device to Intimidate/Threaten or Harass.
