Johnny O. Varela, 80, of Chesnee, South Carolina, passed away on April 3, 2023, at his home. He was born in Clifton, Arizona, to Juan F. and Guadalupe O. Varela on March 27, 1943.
Johnny was a kind and compassionate man and will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched. Johnny enjoyed helping anyone in need around him, including several widows in the Cliff, NM area and was always selfless in serving in his church and wherever opportunities took him. He enjoyed spending time with family and being outdoors to soak up his appreciation for all things around him and sharing that joy with others. His affinity for storytelling was enjoyed by all and will be memorable for years to come. The example he showed, and the caring attitude will be greatly missed.
Johnny is survived by and will be forever cherished and loved by: his wife of 56 years, Janice; and his children, Denise, Ralph (Lisette), Lynda (Brett); and by his 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by: 5 remaining sisters, Margarita, Oralia, Linda, Magdalena, Armida; and his brother-in-law, David. His memory lives on with his many nieces and nephews whom he loved like his children.
Johnny is now with his deceased parents; his sister, Rebecca; and 5 brothers-in-law, Arturo, Carlos, Alex, Frank, and Ernesto.
There will be a funeral service conducted for Johnny on April 14, 2023, at the Clifton, Arizona Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewing will be at 9:00 a.m. with funeral service at 10:00 a.m.
Concluding services will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
