Joe Montez Cueto

Joe Montez Cueto was born on October 8, 1939, in Safford, Arizona, to Nasario and Maria Montez. Joe was born on the same property in Safford where he resided for most of his life.

After completing high school, Joe enlisted in and served in the United States Army. Shortly thereafter, Joe met and married the love of his life, Amy Cueto, for 58 years. Together they raised two children: Brennan and Aimee Jo.

Joe was an avid lover of the outdoors and often traveled with his family on many adventures in his RV. Joe worked for the telephone company in Safford originally known as Mountain Bell as a lineman for 35 years, where he retired. Joe remained active and was avidly involved in the development of The River Church where he served as an usher.

Many can attest that Joe had a heart of gold, always putting others before himself and was an inspiration. Words cannot capture the man that Joe was as a husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Only those who knew him and loved him can understand. Joe will never be forgotten and will forever be in our hearts, until we are reunified with him in Heaven with our Lord Jesus.

Joe passed September 16, 2023, and was surrounded by his family at his side.

Joe is survived by: his wife, Amy Cueto; daughter, Aimee Jo Cueto Lewis; sisters, Frances Sanchez and Mary Lou Justiniano; brothers, Joe Flores and Louie Gonzalez; grandsons, Derek Cueto and Christian Baca; granddaughter, Nichole Cueto; great-grandchildren, McKenna Lane, Mason Lane, Giselle Baca, Rhylan Layton, and Sebastian Cueto.

A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be conducted Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at The River Community Church by Pastor David Chapman.
