The David M Player Center for the Arts was filled to capacity for Safford Mayor, Jason Kouts’ memorial service Saturday night. A large flag flew outside, and a group of police officers were gathered for the service.

The crowd was welcomed by Jason’s pastor, David Chapman of the River Church. The church’s music group, Ignite performed several songs, which included video of Jason singing with the group at the church.
Jason’s son and daughter, Austin and Montana presented his life story, following a slide show of Jason’s life in pictures. Austin and Montana will carry on the family construction business, Kouts and Sons, as the fifth generation to run the business.

Jason’s wife, Maria, spoke about healing for a grieving city. After her remarks, the Graham County Board of Supervisors presented her with the flag that was flying over the Courthouse the day Jason passed away.

Pastor David Chapman offered spiritual remarks toward the conclusion of the service.

After the closing prayer, people went outside and lit candles as the casket was wheeled outside to the hearse. Safford police officers gave their final salute as the casket passed through the lobby.
