Janet Cohen Krupp of Tucson, and former resident of Safford for over 65 years, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the age of 96. She was born in Rochester, New York to Dr. Morris Dabko Cohen and Harriet Schwartz Cohen. She was a great-granddaughter of the Pima Valley Solomon family. Raised in Tucson, where her father was a prominent physician, Janet graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Home Economics.
She married Alvin F. Krupp in 1941 and moved to Safford at the close of World War II. She spent her early years as a Safford resident working in Krupp’s Department Store. Janet enjoyed life in Safford serving as President of the Ladies Golf Association and member of the Graham County Medical Center Auxiliary. She was always a supportive partner to Alvin, former Graham County Attorney.
In their 67 years together, Alvin and Janet traveled extensively and enjoyed a wide circle of close friends and family.
Janet is survived by her sister-in-law, Merrill Krupp and nephew, Dr. Paul Krupp and wife, Susan, of Georgetown, TX and nephew Michael Krupp and wife, Nancy, of Long Boat Key, FL. Also surviving are grandnephews David Ray and wife, Janet, Shalinsky of San Diego, CA, Robert Krupp and wife, Alysia, of Denver, CO, LTC Max Krupp and wife, Keri, as well as Joseph Krupp and wife, Annika, of Austin, TX, Ted Krupp and wife, Sarah, of Encinitas, CA and grandniece, Keri Krupp Ng and husband Chor of Chicago, IL, and cousin Dale Blessing of Beaverton, OR.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin F. Krupp in 2009.
A memorial service celebrating Janet’s life will be held in Tucson at a later date. Memorial Contributions of remembrance can be made to the Graham County Historical Association, 424 Main St., Safford, AZ 85546. Janet will be interred with Alvin at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, TX.
