James “Jim” Weeks, Sr

James “Jim” Weeks, Sr., a resident of Safford, quietly passed from this life in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Haven of Safford. He was 83.

Jim grew up in the Grand Canyon where he learned to shoe horses and the basics of leather work. He cowboyed for several different ranches in several different states until an injury led him to change employment and become a deputy sheriff for Cochise and Gila Counties. Later, on January 1, 1990, he finished Justice of the Peace Wilson’s term and served 10 years as an elected official; and then 10 years as a pro tem Judge. Jim and his wife, Kerri, moved from Strawberry to Safford in 2019.

Jim is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Kerri; son, Jim Jr. (Shelly) Weeks; daughter, Barbara Weeks; grandchildren, Jaime (Cory) Richins, Kelcy (Travis) Lyons, Justin (Natanya) Weeks, Chase (Ashlee) Reed, and Josie (Matthew) Lunt; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren.

He was a loyal and devoted spouse, a kind father, and the most fun jokester grandfather. He loved his family and his Savior. In an interview from 2022, when asked what advice he had for future generations, Jim said “Get out. Learn how to work. Do chores. Go to church.”

Private family services will be conducted at a later date.
