GRAHAM COUNTY — A railroad crossing will soon get new life thanks to an agreement between Graham County and the Arizona Department of Transportation.

On Monday, the Graham County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve an intergovernmental agreement with ADOT to repair the railroad crossing at Klondyke Road.

Under the terms of the agreement, Arizona Eastern Railway will pour new concrete for the crossing to be paid for by ADOT at a cost of about $300,000. It will not be upgraded to a gated crossing.

“That’s a lot of money, but it’s other people’s money,” said Supervisor Paul David. “I’m glad that they’re doing it; it’ll make a big difference.”

Supervisor John Howard said the next step will be addressing the approaches to crossing.

“We do have the maintenance up to the crossing, on both sides,” Howard said, “so I’m sure once they get that crossing in, we’ll get in there and make it where it matches up nicely.”
