SAFFORD — The New Mexico Department of Transportation announced that that Interstate 10 was closed Thursday at the Arizona/New Mexico state line, due to winds blowing dust and creating low visibility.
The result was interstate traffic being diverted to U.S. Highways 70 and 191, through Safford and Duncan.
City of Safford officials cautioned drivers to plan for extra travel time, and be cautious with the increased amount of large vehicle traffic traveling through the eastern portion of the city.
The closure went into effect just after noon and was lifted at about 4:30 p.m.
