SAFFORD — The public will have a chance to comment on how Safford should spend $291,000.

The City Council will hold a public meeting March 9 on possible uses for nearly $300,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds.

CDBG funds are federal grants to support housing and economic opportunities, as well as help low and moderate income areas of a community.

Uses include:

  • Public infrastructure, such as water or sewer lines, or streets
  • Community facilities, such as parks, and senior or youth centers
  • Housing
  • Public services, such as paying salaries for those assisting marginalized groups
  • Economic development, such as business recruitment or micro-loan programs

The public hearing will take place during the City Council’s regular meeting, March 9, at 6 p.m., in the Safford Library’s programming room.
