PIMA — As local governments begin internal budget talks, outside groups that receive funding are starting to put in requests for the coming fiscal year.
Lupe Munoz, secretary/treasurer with Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation, reminded the Pima Town Council that scholarship help is available to all residents of Graham and Greenlee counties, regardless of ethnicity, and the town has been helping financially since 2017.
“That’s a total of $3,200 (from the town). The number of scholarships that we donated to the students of Pima was $4,200,” Munoz said.
Scholarships are to Eastern Arizona College and administered through the EAC Foundation. Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation has made nearly $50,000 worth of scholarships available to Graham and Greenlee students since the organization was formed.
“It’s not us that are benfitting; it’s the students and our community,” said Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation President Mike Andazola. “We want to promote Graham County, we want to promote Hispanic heritage, (and) we want to promote our culture.
“So keep that in the back of your mind, please, when you’re thinking of a donation. Be open, that’s all we ask. We’re making a difference here at Eastern Arizona College. That’s what we want to do — touch a lot of lives and brighten their futures.”
Pima Mayor Dale Rogers said the council would take that information into consideration during 2022-23 budget talks.
