Heat Awareness Week is May 10-14

TUCSON — Arizona Department of Health Services announced that the week of May 10-14 is Heat Awareness Week.

Summer 2020 was the hottest on record in Arizona, with Phoenix experiencing 53 days of temperatures of 110 or more, and 45 days of 100 or more.

National Weather Service meteorologists are predicting similar conditions this summer. And about 3,000 Arizonans visit hospital emergency rooms each year due to heat-related illness.

In the Gila Valley, the three-month outlook for July through September calls for above average temperatures. However, one bright spot is a chance for above average precipitation during the same time period.
