MORENCI — One person is dead following what has been described as a “haul truck accident” at Freeport-McMoRan’s Morenci mining operation.
The incident occurred Monday morning.
Identity of the victim and the nature of the accident have not yet been released to the public.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the employee’s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time,” Freeport officials said in an e-mail to Gila Valley Central.
Freeport officials said the incident remains under investigation, and officials with the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and Arizona State Mine Inspector are on site.
