SAFFORD — The Democratic Committees of Graham, Greenlee and Gila counties, as well as Grant County, N.M., announced that protests over the Trump Administration’s Department of Government Efficiency’s cuts to federal programs and staffing will take place this weekend.
“They’re taking everything they can get their hands on — our health care, our data, our jobs, our services — and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now,” the committees wrote in an e-mail announcing the protest. “This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.”
The protests will take place Saturday, April 5, from noon to 2:30 p.m., on the Main Street sidewalk in front of Safford City Hall; from 4-6 p.m. at Veterans Park in Clifton; from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Globe (the location is listed as private); and from noon to 2 p.m. New Mexico time in Gough Park in Silver City.
The protests are part of Mass Mobilization Day, a series of protests across the country, with the centerpoint in Washington, D.C., starting at noon eastern time.
