PIMA — Suds Up Laundromat took a ribbon-cutting to a whole new level.

The Graham County Chamber of Commerce held a grand-opening ribbon-cutting at the new business in Pima on Thursday, and Suds Up said, “thank you” to the community by holding a block party.

Food and retail vendors were set up along Main Street, as well as on the sidewalk of Eastern Arizona Museum and Historical Society, which was open to the public during the event.

Suds Up has been operating for nearly six months, and co-owner Lori Talavera said response has been overwhelming.

“We have people coming from Eden and the Cottonwood Wash area and Bylas and Fort Thomas. They’re all coming this way and we’re the first stop,” Talavera said. “It’s really convenient and, plus, just having it in Pima. Pima is growing by leaps and bounds.”

Suds Up was one of three new businesses to celebrate with a ribbon-cutting the week of May 10.

The Gila Valley’s newest hotel, Towne Place Suites by Marriott in Thatcher had a Chamber grand-opening ribbon-cutting followed by an open house on Tuesday, May 12; and American Southwest Credit Union in Thatcher celebrated its grand opening with a Chamber ribbon-cutting on Friday, May 15.

Another ribbon-cutting is set for May 23, but this will be for a grand re-opening. The Town of Pima will celebrate the renovations to the town pool on Saturday, May 23, from noon to 5 p.m., with the ribbon-cutting and a group plunge at 1 p.m.
