Graham, Greenlee unemployment drops 5th month in a row

PHOENIX — The number of workers in Graham and Greenlee counties filing for unemployment continues to decline.

Jobless claims in Graham and Greenlee counties fell for the fifth month in a row in November, dropping to historic lows.

That’s according to data released Thursday by the Arizona Commerce Authority.

Graham County’s jobless rate fell five-tenths of a point, from 3 percent in October to 2.5 percent in November, the lowest unemployment in the state.

The jobless rate in Greenlee County fell from 2.9 percent in October to 2.6 percent in November, tied with Yavapai County as the second-lowest unemployment rate in the state.

Nearby Cochise County dropped four-tenths of a point to 3.2 percent unemployment in November.

Statewide, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate fell five-tenths of a point in November to 4.7 percent; remaining well below the same time last year, when Arizona’s unemployment rate was at 6.8 percent. The national rate fell four-tenths of a point in November to 4.2 percent.

Only one job sector reported losses in November — leisure and hospitality, which lost 900 jobs

Reporting job gains in November were: trade, transportation and utilities (up 16,100 jobs); education and health services (up 3,700 jobs); government (up 2,900 jobs); professional and business services (up 2,000 jobs); financial activities (up 1,100 jobs); manufacturing (up 700 jobs); information (up 400 jobs); natural resources and mining (up 200 jobs); and construction (up 100 jobs).
