SAFFORD — With one week to go before the Nov. 8 General Election, the Graham County Board of Supervisors agreed to shore up its cyber security.
The board unanimously agreed Monday to a memorandum of understanding with the state Department of Emergency and Military Affairs-Arizona National Guard for cyber security services, in the event the county ever comes under attack.
“It would be in our best interest to have a third party, just in case,” said McCoy Hawkins, Information and Technology director for the county. “We are one of the . . . counties that haven’t had a cyber attack. There’s been several other counties, and they’ve all requested assistance.”
Hawkins said one of those counties that have come under attack was Greenlee, which is stealing dealing with the attack from “several years ago.”
McCoy said the agreement does not come with any additional hardware or software purchases. County Manager Dustin Welker recommended immediate passage “for the sake of needing it before the election,” and making any desired changes in the language of the agreement at a later date.
