SAFFORD — An Arizona tribe has made good on a debt owed to Graham County.
“As you know, we house inmates from Pascua Yaqui Tribe, and we had been struggling to get payments from them since October,” Graham County Manager Dustin Welker told the Board of Supervisors during Monday’s meeting. “But I’m happy to report, a couple of weeks ago, we did receive the full payment.”
Total amount paid was $125,925, which brings the tribe current through March.
In addition to the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Graham County Jail has a contract to house inmates for the U.S. Marshal’s Office.
Both agencies pay $75 per inmate per day, and each averages about 10 inmates in the Graham County Jail per day.
