THATCHER — The Gila Valley’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month officially kicks off Thursday at Eastern Arizona College.
The kick-off event takes place in the Lee Little Theater starting at 11 a.m.
“We’ll have a couple of speakers coming in from out of town, and also a mariachi coming in from Tucson, Mariachi Allegre,” said Lupe Munoz, secretary/treasurer for Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation.
The Sept. 18 event is open to the public and free to attend.
The next event is a dinner and show Sept. 27, at the EAC Hoopes Activity Center, starting at 5:30 p.m.
The event will feature live mariachi music, folklorico dancers from Sonora, Mexico, and presentations of the male and female Teachers of the Year and Hispanic Family of the Year.
Cost is $65 per person, or a table of eight for $520. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. All proceeds benefit scholarships to Eastern Arizona College.
To wrap up the month, Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation will host a Dias de los Muertos Car Show Nov. 1 in the parking lot of EAC’s Guitteau Gymnasium.
In addition to classic vehicles, the event will feature food trucks, live mariachi music and a menudo bar.
The car show will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and entrance is free.
