SAFFORD — While U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., conducts a meet-and-greet in Downtown Safford on Friday, Gila Valley Indivisible with be outside the event protesting the Congressman.
“We are opposing Ciscomani, not because he’s a Republican, but because of his policies, which have been very detrimental to our state,” said Ellen Schmidt with Gila Valley Indivisible.
Gila Valley Indivisible announced the planned protest on its social media over the weekend, asking those attending to “wear costumes” and “bring bubble makers.”
“It is important that we do not impede any pedestrians trying to access the meet-and-greet. Be friendly to those attending. They are not our enemies. They just have different opinions than we do. That’s OK in a Democracy. Stay on the sidewalk which is public property,” organizers wrote on social media.
Ciscomani is seeking a third term in Congress, in the district representing all of Greenlee County, and portions of Graham, Cochise, Pima and Pinal counties.
Ciscomani’s meet-and-greet will take place Friday, July 3, from 5-7 p.m. at Ginaveve’s Market Place. The event is open to the public and there is no cost to attend.
The protest will take place on the four corners at the intersection of Main Street and 4th Avenue.
