SAFFORD — The Gila Native Plants Nursery annual Spring Plant Sale fund-raiser is underway.

Gila Watershed Partnership invites all members of the public to visit the organization’s website at gwpaz.org/nursery to purchase online throughout the month of April, or join in-person.

“People can come (and) they can talk to our former (nursery) manager (or) current manager,” said GWP Executive Director Sarah Sayles.

The nursery will be open to the public on April 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; April 11, from 8 a.m. to noon; April 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and April 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Native plants are the perfect garden plants to help reduce water usage and encourage native pollinators, including monarchs on their migratory path. To help promote the monarchs, every purchase of $100 or more will receive a free rush milkweed.

The show special this year is the desert willow, a small tree that has gorgeous flowers. Our special version of the desert willow is called the Burgundy Bliss, and there is a large number of this unusual color available for sale. Every desert willow is a special price: $5 off for the purchase 2 one-gallon pots, or $5 off every 5-gallon pot. The sale price is available only in person.

As always, there is a large selection of native flowering plants, trees and shrubs that are uniquely suited to yards in this climate. Online orders can be picked up any Friday through May 1 from 9 to noon unless otherwise scheduled with nursery staff.
