Freeport-McMoRan Foundation announces local grant recipients

PHOENIX — On Monday, the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation announced the Community Investment Grant recipients in Graham County for 2024.

Receiving grants are:

  • Graham County Search and Rescue — $100,000 to make the squad house ADA compliant.
  • St. Vincent DePaul Society — $100,000 for development of the Shelter of Hope.
  • Town of Thatcher — $100,000 for purchase of a new wildland fire truck.
  • Gila Watershed Partnership — $50,000 for repair and replacement of equipment.
  • Fort Thomas Elementary School — $40,000 for playground equipment for Pre-K to second grade students.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix — $10,000 to help Graham County families with a child receiving medical care in Phoenix.

“The success of our community investments depends on genuine partnerships with communities to identify opportunities, address potential risks to resilience and well-being, and collaboratively develop initiatives that strengthen communities for the long term,” said Tracy Bame, president of Freeport-McMoRan Foundation. “We deeply value our relationships with community partners, as these collaborations enable us to contribute effectively to projects and programs that deliver meaningful social benefits and build the foundation for resilience in a postmining future.”

In total, Freeport-McMoRan Foundation donated $400,000 to Graham County in 2024, and has donated more than $5.4 million locally since starting the grant process in 2012.

Greenlee County recipients have not yet been announced.
