SAFFORD — Safford and Clifton will host the next in a series of protests against the Trump administration next week.
The Free America Walkout will take place Tuesday, Jan. 20.
In Safford the protest will take place at the corner of 20th Avenue and Highway 70, starting at noon. In Clifton the protest will take place in Veteran’s Park starting at 3:30 p.m.
The two local protests are part of a nationwide effort that is described as a “walk away from fascism,” a “walk towards a free America” and a “fight for a future that belong to us all.”
It will be the first organized national protest in 2026, and comes on the heels of a series of controversial incidents involving ICE in Minnesota. One of which included the shooting death of a protestor by an ICE officer.
And it will be the eighth local protest since Donald Trump took office in January 2025. Previous 2025 protests Occurred April 5, April 19, May 1, June 14, July 17, Sept. 1 and Oct. 18, which had the largest turnout to date, with upward of 60 participants.
