THATCHER — Frances Rios thought she was experiencing a prank.

“Are you kidding me right now?” she asked when told she won the Double R Communications Mother’s Day Giveaway.

“I just wasn’t feeling myself today and that’s just really nice to hear,” she said.

Frances was nominated by her daughter, Cera, who talked of the sacrifices her mother has made for the family, including raising six children, paying off her parent’s home so they didn’t have that financial obligation, caring for her father in his battle with cancer, and donating a kidney to save her brother’s life.

“He’s my baby brother,” Frances said.
