SAFFORD — The consultants investigating ways to keep the communities of the Gila Valley safe in the event of rains that cause flooding is getting an another year to finalize the plan.

During Monday’s meeting, the Graham County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the ninth amendment to the contract with Tetra Tech to refine the list of alternatives to mitigate flooding in the cities and towns, and take those alternatives through a detailed analysis.

“Nine amendments is a lot, but this has been a long contract,” said Supervisor Paul David. “I’m pleased, with all these amendments, that it’s being funded with a grant.”

The contract now extends to July 2026, unless both sides agree to another extension.
