Everyone in the prep football landscape has been waiting for October 1st for the release of this season’s inaugural power point rankings. These rankings are what the AIA uses to rank the state playoffs.
Let’s start with the 3A. Benjamin Franklin draws the #1 spot just ahead of American Leadership Queen Creek. Safford falls in at #12. Of their remaining games, only Sabino, is ranked higher than them at #6.
In the 2A Thatcher is #4 after last week’s loss to Santa Cruz, who jumps them at #3. Trivium Prep and Parker are #1 and #2. Morenci lands in the top 10 at #9. Pima is #13.
In the 8-man ranks Duncan is #6 and Fort Thomas is #14.
I think some of these numbers are surprising but there is still plenty of season left and they will change on a week to week basis. But one thing is for sure, the last half of the season and playoffs will be exciting.
