GRAHAM COUNTY — The last weekend in March will be a busy one in the Gila Valley.

On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Pima Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Fire Fest Truck and Bike Show will take place in the old Pima High School parking lot.

Fire Fest features displays of classic cars, trucks and bikes. Cost to register a vehicle is $40 day of show. In addition, the event will feature food and other vendors, as well as a DJ.

There is also a raffle for a four-day Baja, Mexico cruise for two. Tickets are $20 or six for $100 and the drawing will be held March 31.

Fire Fest and the Mexican Cruise raffle serve as fund-raisers to help Pima Fire build a new fire station.

From 9-11 a.m., a No Kings Protest will take place in Safford, at the northwest corner of U.S. Highway 70 and 20th Avenue.

“We welcome everyone to come out, no matter your political leanings,” said organizer Sandra Lewis. “We believe no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”

It will be the 10th local protest of the Trump administration since he returned to office in January 2025, the third in 2026 and the first since Trump initiated hostilities with Iran.

At 3 p.m., the City of Safford will conduct a Graham County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting for the grand opening of the new Owens Family Park at 2000 S. 14th Avenue.

The new park includes green space, shaded playground, basketball court, ramadas, and small and large dog areas.

The ceremony will include brief remarks from a representative from the Owens Family — Randa Owens McKinney — and city leadership, as well as refreshments.
