Fatal Accident on Bryce Eden Road

On May 3, 2021 at approximately 1:46 PM the Graham County Communications Center received a call of a vehicle rollover accident with injuries on Bryce Eden Road, west of Morris Lane. When first responders arrived, it was discovered the accident was west of the Cemetery Road turn off.

Law enforcement found a Red 2001 Chevrolet Blazer on the north side of Bryce-Eden Road facing east with severe damage consistent with a rollover accident. Just west of the Blazer on a dirt embankment a female victim was located, later identified as Melissa J. Walker (age 49). She was able to speak but had severe injuries to her leg and complained of chest pain. Law Enforcement and Medical personnel from the Pima Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, Pima Rescue/Fire, Lifeline and the Department of Public Safety assisted, and Melissa J. Walker was taken to the Mt. Graham Regional Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. An autopsy has been scheduled to be performed by the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The accident is still under investigation, but it was determined the Blazer driven by Melissa J. Walker, who was the lone occupant, was west on Bryce Eden Road. In the area where the road curves to the west the Blazer went on to the dirt shoulder, the vehicle corrected back to the paved road where it began to roll. Before the vehicle came to rest on the north side of the road, the driver was ejected. This was a single vehicle accident.

The Graham County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Department of Public Safety, continues the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the first responders who gave their assistance.
