TUCSON — A new poll released by the Democratic candidate for Congress in the district that serves Graham and Greenlee counties shows a neck-and-neck race between her and her Republican opponent.

In a phone survey of 500 likely district voters conducted Aug. 16-21 by GQR Reasearch, Democrat Kirsten Engel holds a 2-point lead over Republican Juan Ciscomani, 49 percent to 47 percent. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 4.38 percent.

Ciscomani holds a 3-point lead when it comes to favorability rating, 25-22, but he also has a higher unfavorable rating compared to Engel, 18-7.

Ciscomani holds a decisive edge in the area of name recognition, with 61 percent of respondents saying they recognized his name compared to 52 percent who recognized Engel’s name.

Following redistricting, Arizona’s new 6th Congressional District is an open race, with the incumbent, Ann Kirkpatrick, announcing her retirement.

Congressional District 6 includes most of Graham, Greenlee and Cochise counties; a portion of Pima County, including a portion of eastern Tucson; a small portion of northern Santa Cruz County, and a portion of Pinal County, including Casa Grande.
