THATCHER, Ariz.—Eastern Arizona College’s Art Department recently hosted its second annual juried art show, showcasing the talent and creativity of its students. The exhibit, currently displayed in the Activities Center lobby, will be available for viewing until March 27.
Art Professor Holt Brasher opened the evening by welcoming attendees and expressing his gratitude for their support. “I want to give a round of applause to all the friends and family who came to support a student tonight,” he said. He also commended the students for their dedication and success in having their artwork featured in the show. Brasher acknowledged the vital contributions of Graphic Design Professor Jeff Henley and his work-study student, Jenna Jensen, stating, “This show doesn’t happen without Jeff Henley and his work study Jenna Jensen, who make sure each name tag is spelled correctly, put with the right piece of art, and that all art pieces get hung.”
Awards were presented to outstanding artists, with the People’s Choice awards determined by audience votes.
People’s Choice – Visual Arts: Jalee Bryant for Quacked Up People’s Choice – Graphic Design: Megan Fillerup for Worlds of Lightbulbs
Professor Franklin Alvarez, who was tasked with selecting the Best in Show winners, spoke about the difficulty of choosing just two pieces from the exceptional submissions. “Everybody should have received a prize. I walked around thinking, ‘Which one would I want to hang on my wall?’ and I wanted them all. The uniqueness of these two pieces caught my attention.”
Best in Show – Visual Arts: Natayln Rogers for Haunted House
Best in Show – Graphic Design: Paityn Mattice for Girl’s Guide to School Pride
The Director’s Choice Award, selected by EAC Fine Arts director, Dr. Gideon Burrows, will be displayed in the Fine Arts Auditorium lobby for a year. This honor was awarded to Jenna Jensen for her piece, Headache.
The EAC Art Department extends its appreciation to all students who participated, as well as to faculty, staff, and attendees who contributed to the success of the event.
