Dutch fire on Mount Graham at 70-percent containment

SAFFORD — Firefighters have made substantial progress on two of the wildfires that were discovered in Graham County on Sunday.

Coronado National Forest officials said hikers on Ladybug Trail should expect to see increased firefighter activity while they finish knocking down the 1-acre Dutch fire, in the Mount Graham Wilderness area, southeast of Ladybug Peak. Firefighters have achieved 70-percent containment.

The fire was started by a lightning strike.

On the western side of Graham County, the 50-acre Starlight fire on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, just north of Copper Reef Mountain, is also at 70-percent containment.

Meanwhile, the Malay fire in the northeast corner of Graham County, near the borders of Apache and Greenlee counties, and the Stove Spring fire in the northern portion of the county, north of Clover Road, both remain at one-tenth of an acre in size.
