THATCHER — More than two boxes of expired and unwanted prescriptions medications are headed for incineration.

That was the volume handed over to Thatcher Police during Saturday’s Dump the Drugs event in the parking lot of Home Depot.

The drugs will be destroyed using the Thatcher Police Department’s new incinerator, which was purchased with a grant from United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties.

Melissa Mitchell, with the Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition, said those who missed Saturday’s event can still make sure unwanted medications are properly disposed.

“If you do have prescription drugs or medications that you need to get rid of, they do have drop boxes at the Safford Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department and I think also at the Walmart pharmacy,” Mitchell said.

Drop boxes are also located at the Thatcher and Pima Police stations.
