GRAHAM COUNTY — The Federal Bureau of Prisons have asked for help from Graham County Sheriff’s Office in tracking down those suspected of getting contraband into FCI-Safford.

On Saturday, April 13, at about 10:24 p.m., a drone was spotted flying over the prison and people were heard speaking outside of the prison to the south. It was believed contraband was dropped in before the drone flew away.

Prison officials said plastic wrapping materials were found but nothing else. Graham County Sheriff’s deputies searched the surrounding area but came up empty in the search for any suspects.

Prison officials said activity on Boulder Lane generally starts around 9:30 p.m. and other drones have been spotted in the area. As a result, prison officials have been closing down earlier, to prevent inmates from retrieving any prohibited items.

Deputies said they would increase patrols in the area, especially around the most active times.
