SAFFORD —Busy commuters had two convenient chances to receive the imposition of ashes Wednesday morning.

Drive-through Ash Wednesday imposition of ashes was offered through 10 a.m. at the corner of 10th Avenue and 8th Street, across from Walmart, and outside of First United Methodist Church at the corner of 10th Avenue and 10th Street in Safford.

The drive-through imposition of ashes was implemented by the Gila Valley Ministerial Association, a multi-denominational group dedicated to the betterment of the community.

“It’s extremely important that we realize that this is not just an Episcopalian priest out here doing this, or a Methodist deacon or Methodist pastor, or a Catholic or a Lutheran; that, really, we are here as one family,” said Fr. Devin Gillespie of All Saints Episcopal Church.

A traditional Ash Wednesday service for all faiths will take place at 6 p.m. at All Saints Church.

And the Ministerial Association announced it will once again conduct the walking Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, April 15. Participants will start at Graham County Courthouse and walk east to All Saints Church, stopping at predetermined areas to hear about of the 14 events that started with the condemnation to death of Jesus Christ and ended with the placing of his lifeless body on the sepulcher.
