SAFFORD — Graham County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the circumstances surrounding a possible overdose in the county jail.
Deputies were dispatched to the jail Friday, Oct. 14, a little after 10 a.m. There they found Manuel Arrellin lying on the floor of a holding cell, and jail nurses trying to wake him. The nurses informed the deputies that Arrellin had been given three doses of Narcan.
Arrellin was transported via Lifeline ambulance to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Neither jail staff nor the deputies were able to locate any evidence of any drug in the holding cell where Arrellin was discovered. However, in speaking with Arrellin’s probation officer, deputies learned a urine sample from Arrellin the next day had tested positive for fentanyl.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
