THATCHER — This year, the elementary school class that donates the most food to help local food banks will result in prizes for the students and the teacher.

American Southwest Credit Union is sponsoring a teacher prize package for the Double R Communications Elementary School Food Drive to benefit Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry.

The teacher in each Gila Valley elementary school whose class brings in the most non-perishable food items will receive:

Meanwhile the students in the winning classes will receive a Domino’s pizza party, cupcakes from Creative Custom Cakes, a trophy from Trophies N’ Tees and a visit from the PHI Air Medical helicopter.

Last year’s food drive generated more than 40,000 food items for Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry food bank, and the goal is to bring in even more this year.

The deadline to donate is Thursday, Nov. 20.

Double R Communications — operators of Kat Kountry 94.5, Sunny 102.3, News-Talk 1230 AM KATO and Valley Vision, along with GilaValleyCentral.net — has been coordinating the food drive for more than 20 years; and this year’s sponsors include Domino’s, Creative Custom Cakes, Trophies N’ Tees, PHI Air Medical, Sparklight, Valley Furniture, Macks Auto Parts/Napa, Open Loop, American Southwest Credit Union, the Graham County Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties.
