THATCHER — The Daughters of the American Revolution Gila Valley Chapter recently awarded a $500 scholarship to Lauren Montierth, a Safford High School student dual-enrolled at Eastern Arizona College, for her patriotic essay on the Constitution.

To keep the scholarship program going, the local DAR announced it is fund-raising through the fall and into the winter.

“We are offering patriotic wreaths that were recently made by members and friends of the chapter,” said the DAR’s Bonnie Briscoe. “They are 18-inches wide in a grape-vine wreath; with colorful red, white and blue silk flowers, ribbons, stars and an American flag.”

Briscoe said the wreaths are suitable for hanging in the home or placing at a gravesite.

Cost is $40 each and wreaths can be obtained by calling 928-348-6609 or 928-899-4482.
