THATCHER — A misunderstanding of hand signals, and not seeing road crews, led to a two-vehicle collision with injuries.
The incident occurred Monday, Sept. 12, while Graham County road crews were placing a layer of tar on 8th Street, limiting traffic to one lane with flaggers.
The driver of a vehicle traveling westbound said she understood a road worker’s hand signals as OK to turn left onto 4th Avenue. Meanwhile another driver traveling eastbound said she did not see the road crew directing traffic, and the two vehicles collided head-on.
Injuries were reported and the drivers were transported to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center via ground ambulance; however, nature of the injuries was not immediately disclosed.
Graham County road crews told Sheriff’s deputies they did not give either driver direction to proceed, rather they were showing the drivers in which lanes to travel when appropriate.
No citations were issued in the incident.
