COVID decline in March continues

SAFFORD — The COVID-19 numbers in Graham County continue to drop in March.

Graham County Health Department reported Wednesday 14 new cases over the previous seven days.

That brings March’s total thus far to 54, an average of 3.4 new cases per day.

Active cases also declined, dropping to 186.

Since the start of the pandemic, Graham County has experienced 11,932 cases, 45 percent of which were experienced by residents aged 20 to 44 years old. The next largest group was those under 20 years old, accounting for 20 percent of the cases.

The group accounting for the fewest cases were those 55-64, experiencing 11 percent of the cases in the county.

There was also another death, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Graham County since the start of the pandemic to 173, a 1.5 percent mortality rate.

Arizona Department of Health Services reports 50.4 percent of Graham county’s population has been vaccinated for coronavirus. Graham County Health Department is providing free vaccines to anyone 5-years-old and older, and free boosters to anyone 12 and older. Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties, is offering free drive-up COVID-19 testing at the hospital’s Copper Mountain Clinic. Free drive-up testing takes place Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon.
