Couple leaves Jeep by Clay Knolls, comes back to find it gone

A couple called the Graham County Sheriff’s Office Saturday morning to report that their Jeep had been stolen. The couple and their son had driven the vehicle out the Clay Knolls to test it after it had been experiencing mechanical issues. The reporting party said the Jeep broke down and they left it on the northeast side of the hill at approximately 1:30 am. When they went back at 8:00 in the morning, the Jeep was missing and a few items that had been in the Jeep were on the ground.

A deputy went to the scene to take a report and enter the missing vehicle into the stolen vehicle database. After talking to the couple the deputy drove around to the west side of the hill and found the Jeep parked there. The reporting party said they did not move it there. When the owner inspected it, he found the steering wheel and ignition were damaged.

The couple said they did not want to press any charges, they just wanted their vehicle back. As the deputy was leaving they said that someone was on their way to tow the vehicle home.
