SAFFORD — The towns of Pima and Thatcher, City of Safford and Graham County are teaming for Community Pride Days next month, and the City of Safford is taking extra steps this year, providing help in one neighborhood.

“One of the biggest issues we have is financial hardships, or seniors, or the disabled, or even they don’t have a pick-up truck or trailer to get the items to the landfill,” said Andrew Bell, Safford Neighborhood officer.

Starting Feb. 19 and running through Feb. 25, the city will place Dumpsters on 14th Avenue, at El Paso Park. Anyone can place trash items in the Dumpsters and the city will haul it off free of charge.

Items eligible for disposal include:

● Household items

● Debris

● Yard waste

● Bicycles

● Old toys

● Green waste (must be bagged or boxed, and branches cannot be more than 4-feet in length)

● Small furniture

Large furniture, appliances and rimless tires may be placed in the designated areas near the Dumpsters. Hazardous materials, paints, batteries, vehicles, and construction materials will not be accepted.

The city will also place Dumpsters at the Safford Cemetery Feb. 19-24 for those who want to volunteer cleaning that area of trash, debris and shrubs.

During Community Pride Days, which will run Feb. 22-24, Graham County residents are entitled to one free load of residential trash at the landfill. No hazardous materials will be accepted.

Proof of residency is required and loads that are not covered and secured are subject to a $10 charge.

In addition to the free load as part of Community Pride Days, Safford residents are entitled to one free load of residential trash at the landfill each month. Proof of Safford utility service is required.
