THATCHER — The Town of Thatcher is in the midst of a commercial development boom.
At last month’s Town Council meeting, Town Manager Heath Brown said the town has put out the request for proposal for a second tenant at the commercial plaza being developed at the location of the old Red Lamp mobile home park.
The first tenant, American Southwest Credit Union, is expected to break ground and begin construction in the spring.
“There’s a lot of really good energy, there really is,” said Mayor Jenny Howard. “A lot of things that we’ve been waiting on and pushing for are finally coming to fruition, so it’s a really good thing.”
One of those things is a new 70-room, three-story, hotel to the east of Springhill Suites by Marriott, at the corner of Highway 70 and Church Street. The developer is Sunridge Hotel Group, the owners of Springhill Suites, and work began this month.
And work continues on a new multi-story U-Haul storage and vehicle rental facility near the Comfort Inn on Highway 70.
However, it was noted that a planned remodel of the Burger King restaurant in the Safeway Plaza, originally to start in the spring, has been delayed until the third or fourth quarter of this year, after the Douglas Burger King remodel is completed.
