WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., has been named by Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., to a new congressional task force aimed at combating Mexican cartels. The task force will be led by Congressman Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas.

“From spike in crime to fentanyl overdoses, we see the dangerous effects of cartel activity at the southern border every day in my district,” Ciscomani said. “This task force reflects the concerted effort that the House Majority is making to fight against cartel activity and make our country a safer place for all.”

Ciscomani has put forth several efforts in Congress aimed at prosecuting cartels and illegal activity at the southern border, specifically:

● In March, Ciscomani supported legislation to stop cartel recruitment of Americans on social media platforms, where they often find individuals to help with drug and human trafficking across the border.

● In May, Ciscomani introduced legislation to increase punishments on cartel spotters, individuals who aid cartel operations at the border.

The task force will work alongside the relevant committees of jurisdiction to develop legislative solutions focused on thwarting activity from cartels and other transnational criminal organizations.

Other members of the task force include Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo.; Rick Crawford, R-Ark.; Brian Babin, R-Texas; Glenn Grothman, R-Wisc.; Warren Davidson, R-Ohio; Andy Biggs, R-Ariz.; Clay Higgins, R-La.; Mike Johnson, R-La.; Carol Miller, R-W.V.; Chip Roy, R-Texas; Michael Waltz, R-Fla.; August Pfluger, R-Fla.; Maria Salazar, R-Fla.; Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Ore.; Monica De La Cruz, R-Texas; and Anthony D’Esposito, R-N.Y.

Ciscomani’s district includes Graham, Greenlee and Cochise counties.
