WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Juan Ciscomani will have a direct role in federal funding discussions on transportation, housing, education, health, and economic issues as a member of the House Appropriations Committee.

The freshman from Arizona’s 6th Congressional District was named today as a member of three key Appropriations subcommittees:
• Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies;
• Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies; and
• Financial Services and General Government.

“These subcommittees will give us the opportunity to directly impact some of the issues most important to our region,” Ciscomani said. “Transportation, housing and homelessness, education, healthcare, and international trade – we will have a say on all of it. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that federal spending is responsible, transparent, and delivers the results taxpayers deserve.”

The subcommittee appointments were met with positive reception from the district.

“These subcommittee appointments are incredibly important for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District,” said Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson, one the co-chairs of Ciscomani’s Citizen’s Advisory Council. “This is exactly where Juan needs to be to deliver results for both the rural and urban parts of our diverse district.”

Fellow Advisory Council co-chair, Dr. Eric Cornidez, agreed.

“This is an amazing win for our district,” Cornidez said. “These appointments will give Juan the opportunity to address some of the most pressing needs facing our community. They give us – the residents of the 6th District – a seat at the table.”

And Graham County Supervisor John Howard, also a member of the Advisory Council, said, “Congressman Ciscomani is a true friend of rural Arizona. He understands our issues and knows our priorities. These subcommittee assignments will help him do the job we need him to do.”
The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies is responsible for overseeing funding for the Department of Transportation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Affordability of housing and homelessness are top priorities for Arizona, along with transportation and road maintenance.

“I’m excited to welcome Congressman Ciscomani to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies,” said Subcommittee Chair Tom Cole, of Oklahoma. “Congressman Ciscomani’s years of experience in the Arizona Governor’s Office will give him valuable insight into the needs of state and local governments and I look forward to working with him on this committee.”

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies is responsible for overseeing funding for the Department of Labor, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Education. Serving on this subcommittee allows Ciscomani to prioritize critical issues related to workforce development and education.

“I look forward to working with Congressman Ciscomani on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies,” said Subcommittee Chair Robert Aderholt, of Alabama. “Congressman Ciscomani’s experience as an executive with the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and with the University of Arizona will give him a valuable perspective on issues of workforce development and education.”

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government is responsible for overseeing funding for the Department of the Treasury, among other agencies. The appointment will give Ciscomani a seat at the table for funding issues related to the economy and trade, including Arizona’s ports of entry.

“I’m excited to welcome Rep. Ciscomani to the House Appropriations FSGG Subcommittee for the 118th Congress,” said Subcommittee Chair Steve Womack of Arkansas. “Juan’s dedication to conservative values and background on commerce and business issues will be an asset. We have hard work ahead of us, and I know our joint focus on sound policy and getting our fiscal house in order will deliver results. Guiding critical funding priorities is no easy task, but our team is ready to hit the ground running.”

Ciscomani is the only first-term lawmaker on the House Appropriations Committee. Today’s subcommittee assignments follow Ciscomani’s appointment last week to the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

Ciscomani was sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives on January 7, 2023, serving Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. The district covers parts of Pima, Pinal, Cochise, and Graham counties, and all of Greenlee County. It includes the cities of Tucson, Casa Grande, Sierra Vista, Safford, and Green Valley. It shares a border with Mexico, includes two major military installations — Davis Monthan Air Force Base and Fort Huachuca, includes Morenci Mine, the largest copper producing mine in North America, and the federal highway serves as a major artery for international trade and commerce for Arizona’s number one trading partner, Mexico.
