Christmas disagreement results in man booked into the local jail

SAFFORD – On Friday, Dec. 25, Safford Police officers responded to a home on El Paso Boulevard following reports of a man and woman screaming at each other in the driveway.

When the officers arrived, they found a calm situation, and no indication of physical altercation. However, one of the persons involved, identified as Michael Phillips, did not stay in place, instead retreating into the home.

A records check found an outstanding warrant for Phillips and it was discovered he left through a back door, necessitation a search of the area.

A neighbor reported seeing Phillips hopping a fence ad he was discovered hiding in a neighboring yard.

Phillips was taken into custody without further incident and booked into Graham County jail on the outstanding warrant. He reportedly claimed he fled because he didn’t want to go to jail.
