SAN CARLOS — The Bronco fire, northeast of Phillips Park tank in Hilltop, on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, has increased in size to 3,200 acres, with 0-percent containment.
The fire was discovered Sunday, Aug. 3, at about 1 p.m. and was caused by lightning.
San Carlos Apache Forest Resources reports more than 100 personnel have been assigned to battle the blaze, which appears to be moving eastward through brushy, steep terrain.
Air quality may be an issue in the Peridot and Bylas areas due to the smoke. It’s recommended that the elderly and those with respiratory issues remain indoors as much as possible.
A new wildfire was also discovered in the southwest corner of Graham County, just west of Basset Peak.
The Ash Creek fire was discovered Tuesday, Aug. 5, at about 4:43 p.m. It’s currently listed at 1.7 acres in size.
