Springerville — The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests will lift all fire restrictions effective at 6 a.m. Friday, July 17, including the area closure on Promontory Butte on the Black Mesa Ranger District.
Fire managers continually evaluate conditions across the forests to help determine when to implement or rescind fire restrictions. Increased moisture and cooler temperatures have reduced the risk of severe fire behavior. The forecast shows these improved conditions continuing.
The public should remain vigilant while visiting the forest, regardless of restriction levels.
Leaving a campfire unattended is illegal all year round. Campfires must be dead out — cold to the touch — before walking away. Fireworks are always prohibited on National Forest lands.
