THATCHER — The grades are in for the 2023-24 school year and Thatcher graduated with honors.
The Arizona State Board of Education released the letter grades for public and charter schools across the state, and all the schools in the Thatcher Unified School District earned an A grade.
Also earning A grades were the two K-8 schools in Graham County — Bonita and Solomon — as well as Pima High School, Metcalf Elementary in Morenci, and Discovery Plus Academy charter school.
All the other schools in Graham and Greenlee counties earned B and C grades, except Duncan Elementary and Pima Junior High School, which both were graded D.
There were no failing schools in Graham or Greenlee counties.

According to the State Board of Education, the grades are based on “year to year student academic growth, proficiency on English language arts, math and science, the proficiency and academic growth of English language learners, indicators that an elementary student is ready for success in high school and that high school students are ready to succeed in a career or higher education, and high school graduation rates.”
Fort Thomas spends the most, at $17,309.77 per pupil, followed by Thatcher at $7,867.05, Morenci at $7.414.24, Pima at $7,002.08 and Safford at $5,053.04. Duncan’s per-pupil spending was not made available.
Morenci has the highest graduation rate at 95.77 percent, followed by Thatcher at 89.93 percent, Duncan at 88 percent, Pima at 84.15 percent, Safford at 82.64 percent and Fort Thomas at 75 percent.
