AIA releases modifications to gameday rules

PHOENIX — As expected the Arizona Interscholastic Association as released modifications to game day procedures.

The biggest change across the board in all sports is that all coaches and team personnel must wear a mask and all times. Players are required to wear a mask during all team travel and pre/post game.

For volleyball, teams won’t change benches as they usually do after a set. Also there will be no pregame coin toss to determine serve/receive. Instead the visiting team will have the option. Also no handshakes, high fives or hugs at any point during the match.

There have been additions made to the volleyball uniform as well. Cloth face coverings are allowed as are gloves, long sleeves, and long pants.

On the football field there will be only one captain at midfield for the coin toss instead of the usual three where everyone will stand 6 feet apart. The team box for players will be extended on both sides of the field to the 10 yard line but the coaches box will stay the same. Anybody on the sideline must be wearing a face mask, including the chain crew.

For Cross Country teams can still do a team chant but non racers should not be part of the huddle. Shade tents should be numerous enough to follow social distancing for athletes.

Cross Country’s guidelines is the only sport that mentions spectators. It will be up to the host school if spectators are allowed but if they are, they must wear a mask.
