Adult rec opportunities abound in the Gila Valley

SAFFORD — From disc golf to cornhole to volleyball, there’s something for almost every active adult over the coming weeks.

The deadline to register for Gila Valley Disc Golf’s second annual Ducks on the Pond Tournament closes Tuesday, Feb. 20. Play will take place Saturday, Feb. 24, and cost is $25 per player.

Players will play two rounds of 27 holes each, with play taking place through Graham County Fairgrounds. Winners will receive a trophy for each division with at least four players. Also there will be an Ace pot for any players who sink a hole-in-one.

The tournament is sponsored by United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties and the first 44 to register will receive hats and jerseys. To register, go to discgolfscene.com.

Safford City Councilman Luke Arbizo announced on his social media that the City of Safford is starting a cornhole league.

Play will take place from 7-9 p.m. at Safford Middle School and there is no cost to play.

Four dates have been set:

● Thursday, March 21

● Thursday, April 25

● Thursday, May 23

The Town of Thatcher has opened registration for its Women’s Volleyball League.

The league is open to any woman 18 and older and is limited to a maximum of 300 players.

Cost is $300 per team and play begins Tuesday, March 5, at the Thatcher Middle School gymnasium.
